Where Fun Meets Fiddling!

Third full week of June-Weiser, Idaho

Bluegrass Village Stage  and Other Swell Things to See

"Fiddle Week 2010" was a wonderful time!  We ended up adding another hour to our line-up due to having so many entertainers  available to play for our enthusiastic audiences.  Thanks to all who entertained and thanks to all who were there to enjoy them!

We were thrilled at the number of folks who enjoyed the entertainment on the Bluegrass Village Stage beginning Tuesday morning and ending Saturday evening with the Battle of the Bluegrass Bands. We were able to provide over 50 hours of free entertainment on our Bluegrass Village Stage for the enjoyment of our attendees!

Other special events during the week at the City Park Bluegrass Village were Kids' Day on Friday, June 25.  We had a wonderful display of antique steam-operated equipment, antique tractors, pumps, and more.  It was fascinating to see how things were done in the "good ol' days."  That kept the "older kids" busy while the youngsters enjoyed such activities as the face-painting, fishing pond, Smokey the Bear, Bounce House, Masonic C.H.I.P. Child I.D. booth, fly-fishing demos, and much more.

Saturday is always fun-filled with something for everyone.  The Firemen's Hose Competition between the City of Weiser and  Washington County Rural Fire Departments was a "blast." There were a lot of laughs and cheers as competitors donned water-soaked turn-outs and attempted to beat the other team. Different areas of expertise needed in the vital job of fire fighting were demonstrated in a hilarious and highly competitive arena.  They took this serious business to a new level.  Spectators on the side-lines were treated to a spray of cool water as the competition got wet and wild.  What a fun way to show the ability of these great guys and gals who volunteer in our local fire departments!  Thanks for all you do!

The Pigs-N-Pie Auction on Saturday after the parade was a great success.  The proceeds this year went to the Special Olympics.  A willing group of police officers, clergy, Festival Director, (Yeah, I took a pie in the kisser!) and others were auctioned off to the highest bidder for the chance to smack them in the face with a cream pie.  What a sticky, ooey-gooey, but somehow refreshing way to raise funds!  I swear vanilla cream is a great skin treatment! What fun!

Our Battle of the Bluegrass Bands was extremely popular and drew a capacity crowd. Winner of the top spot was The North Idaho Hat Band followed by The Roundhouse Band and Jonathan Warren and the Billy Goats.  What a fun way to finish up Fiddle Week in Bluegrass Village.  Thanks to all who competed, voted with your dollars, or  came to cheer on your favorites.

Our volunteers were wonderful all week and they are all such a huge part of our success.   We couldn't do it without them.  We had volunteers helping to set up, running booths during Kids' Day, helping deliver soda and ice to vendors, driving the grand marshals in the parade, organizing and judging the parade, assisting entertainers with their needs, running the information booth, selling raffle tickets, and so much more.  Our entertainers are all volunteers as well.  They willingly share their talents without compensation to make this event so enjoyable. A huge thanks to all who were so generous with your time, efforts and hard work. We couldn't do it without you!
